What Causes Acne?
Acne scar treatment is typically needed after a series of damaged skin from a long battle of acne build up. Acne typically forms within the facial area, although other common areas are the neck, chest, back and shoulders. This is because these body areas contain the most sebaceous(oil) glands. Sebaceous glands produce sebum which is an oily substance that lubricates your hair
and skin. When the sebum tries to reach the surface, but is held back by the clogged pores due to dead skin cells, that is when blackheads or whiteheads starts to form. Whiteheads are bulges that appear when the follicle wall is blocked by the clogged pore. A blackhead, is when the plug causing the clogging surfaces. Although it appears to be dirt, it is actually bacteria and oil thatis brown due to the exposure to air. During these stages, bacteria grows within the clogged pores, and if it becomes infectious, then inflammation occurs resulting in a pimple. It is recommended to seek active acne and acne scar treatment before it becomes heavily damaged.

Hormones
Typically during puberty, men and women’s hormones called androgens produce, enlarging sebaceous glands which in turn produce more sebum. Women who go through pregnancy or use oral contraceptives also tend to fluctuate in hormone levels, which increase the amount of sebum being produced.
Medications
Medication that contains corticosteroids, androgens, or lithium can worsen acne.
Diet
Dairy products, foods with high carbohydrates, and chocolate have been known to worsen acne.
Myths?
Some people think that eating food with high levels of oil worsens acne. Although eating oil rich foods may have little to no effect, it’s things like cooking over a steamy kitchen that is more susceptible to acne. When washing your face, be careful not to over exfoliate or scratch it as it may irritate your skin making acne worse. It’s good however, to ensure that just enough of the dead skin cells and dirt is being removed from your face. Cosmetics don’t necessarily cause acne, assuming that it is removed regularly – but, using oil-free makeup would reduce the likeliness of clogging pores.
